Analysis
We believe that the war on drugs was necessary for the well being of the citizens of the United States. President Ronald Reagan did the best he could to stop drug trafficking. We think that because drugs were so heavily banned, the people were more rebellious and wanted to try drugs. It may have started as a trial, but it ended up as an addiction and eventually an arrest. The drug cartel leaders were very prosperous in their business but the economy was struggling. President Reagan spent billions of dollars in drug management including the formation of the DEA. There was an immense increase in arrests during the 80's specifically because of drugs. Drug deaths were also a lot more common. The societal life must have changed drastically as well. The people probably got used to the smell of marijuana. Everyone must have known at least one person who did some drug. The temptation to do drugs surely was much higher because of it's availability.
